Cult of Pedagogy

Cult of Pedagogy  is a professional development website for new and experienced teachers. An online store offers additional classroom materials, online courses, books, and T-shirts, mugs, and other things for teachers.

The Blog organizes teaching tips under three headings: The Craft, Go Deep (theory and beyond), and Teacher Soul. Each of these headings has 3-5 subheadings to explore. A topic menu is also provided. For example, under Teacher Soul is the subheading Inspiration. One of the posts under Inspiration is Find Your Marigold: The One Essential Rule for New Teachers. Specifically aimed at first year teachers, "Find Your Marigold" stresses the importance of finding positive, supportive, energetic role models. This and other blog post can be downloaded as PDFs. Readers can register to respond.

Podcast length varies, but many are 1-11/2 hours. Episodes cover mainstreamed ESL students, plagiarism, educational technology, common teaching problems, and more. Currently, there are 71 podcasts. In Podcast 58, 6 Powerful Learning Strategies You MUST Share with Students,  (44:44) two cognitive scientists talk about the value of spaced practice, retrieval practice, elaboration, interleaving, concrete examples, and dual coding. The podcast includes video, an infographic that outlines the 6 strategies, and a link to their website, The Learning Scientist.

Videos cover instruction, classroom management, educational technology, and advice for teachers. Introduction to Listenwise (3:57) presents free and subscription versions of a website that houses public radio podcasts for classroom use. How To Use Quizlet (4:54) demonstrates the use of a flashcard creator with a lot of extra features.

For 2017, Summer Book Study is devoted to five young adult books. Each book is introduced and a link to join a conversation is provided.
