Transforming Schools Through Collaboration

“Involve teachers and their unions and we will back tough reform efforts,” says NEA President Dennis Van Roekel.

NEA President Dennis Van Roekel joined Education Secretary Arne Duncan and other education and union leaders last month to announce a national education reform conference on labor-management collaboration to take place next year. The announcement followed a roundtable discussion that highlighted an innovative labor agreement that is helping to transform public schools in Florida’s Hillsborough County.

The collaboration and teamwork on display in Hillsborough is essential to improving student achievement, said Van Roekel, and is evident in communities and school districts across the nation.
